ASEAN
Economic Community is an opportunity where each country in ASEAN can compete in
marketing and job employment. This economic integration opportunity provides
the possibility to each country to develop their products and improve their
worker’s quality. Indeed in facing this free market, communication is the main
point to interact in ASEAN Economic Community. There are several countries with
different culture and language involve in ASEAN Economic Community. As an
international language, English has an important role in facing ASEAN Economic Community.
Thus, mastering English is a key to conquer ASEAN Economic community.
ASEAN
Economic Community (AEC) is discussed among society in different status such as
entrepreneur, youth or student, government, media and so on. AEC is a challenge
and a chance at once. It is a challenge to every country in ASEAN to compete in
economic and business sectors not only for products but also for jobs. Besides,
it is a chance for every country to develop their economic integration and
improve their work’s quality.
No doubt that ASEAN Economic
Community involves many countries with different culture and language in Asia. In
this case, English as the lingua franca of the world controls a crucial role to
create the effective communication. When some people with different language gather
and each has their own language, it is impossible for them to talk by using
their own languages. It makes miscommunication. Therefore, English as the
international language can be the main language for them to communicate and as
a result, the aim is reached and the communication is easy to be understood.
On
the other hand, people who speak English fluently and mastering English has a
better prospects and potentials in global market than who does not. Good communication
ability, especially in English has been used to be the requiting new employer
not only in international companies, but also in some local companies. It could
be one consideration to approve job application with English.
Besides,
English is a language of education. In facing ASEAN Economic Community,
education should be improved, not only in formal education but also non formal
education. Nowadays can be found many educational programs which can increase
the knowledge and it mostly use English as the language. English is used as the
media to look for knowledge and information. Without mastering English
language, it is hard to get more knowledge and gather more information to
conquer ASEAN Economic Community.
In
addition, English is used mostly in terms of business and economy. it can be found
so many terms about economic and business by using English language. Many
researchers found that English is used in international business communication.
Due to, ASEAN Economic Community concern with business and economy, English is
used in many activities such as; export-import activities, investment, business
development, and consumer communication.

DISCUSSION
In
the field of business, export-import is a common activity which is due to
international trading. International trading is a sale and buy products activities
through national borders. Indeed ASEAN Economic Community involves export-import
activities. For instance, when some companies want to develop their business,
they have to export their products to other countries. On the other hand, when
some company needs some products from another company or country they need to
import products from another country. Export-import activities can be implemented
through market place or directly to the related parties. To reach the goal,
English is used to contact those related parties. Therefore, English has a role
as the bridge in the communication and interaction which involves countries
from different languages.
In facing ASEAN Economic Community
investment is important. Investment is an activity in economy which expects
another profit in the future. Based on economic theory, investment means a
purchase (and production) from capital assets that are not to consume, but it
is used to produce in the future. There are several kinds of investment in
business world, such as; land investment, education investment, foreign
currency investment, and stock investment. In conquering ASEAN Economic
Community, investment is a great way to get more profit in the future. Many countries
are involved in investment activity and there are many companies not only
international companies but also national companies investing. Due to ASEAN
Economic Community involves many countries, indeed English is used in
investment activity to communicate each other. For instance when some country
or company needs foreign investor for tourism English is used for communication.
Therefore, the investment goal can be reached.
In addition, English has a crucial
role in business development. For instance, when a company wants to create branches
of the company in another country, they need to have a great communication skill,
especially English ability. There will be many affairs which are required to
have a great English ability. They need to master English as the international
language for doing business, such as administer company license, tax
administer, system adjustment, making a scheme, etc. Without mastering English,
it will be hard to develop the business or company. Thus, to conquer ASEAN
Economic Community business development is very important in order to compete
in international sector and English is used in mostly in business development. In
other word, when some country or company want to develop their business, they
need to mastering English because communication in foreign is mostly uses
English.
Finally, in ASEAN Economic
Community, it must be a lot of activities which involves consumer around the
world. In communicating with consumer, of course mastering English is needed. There
will be miscommunication in the communication without mastering English
language. In communication, it should be to way interaction which is
understandable and communicative. Therefore, English is used in interaction
toward consumer in facing ASEAN Economic Community
Overall, to conquer ASEAN Economic
Community, mastering English is very important, because English has a crucial
role in business and economic sectors. without mastering English there will be
miscommunication and ambiguity, because ASEAN Economic Community involves many
countries with different language. To achieve the communicative and effective
communication in ASEAN Economic Community, mastering English is necessary.
CONCLUSION
In
conclusion, to conquer ASEAN Economic Community there will need some
improvement in products and work’s quality. Some of the key to improve the
work’s quality is by mastering English, because ASEAN Economic Community involves
many countries with different culture and language. ASEAN Economic Community is
concerned with business and economic sector. As an international language,
English has a crucial role in economic and business sectors, such as in
export-import activities, investment, business development, and interaction
among consumers.
